Tajikistan visa policy

The visa policy of Tajikistan is a set of travel rules and entry requirements that should be followed by every traveler. Depending on your nationality, you can apply either for an online visa, a visa on arrival, or a regular visa. Some foreigners may enjoy visa-free entry.

Visa-free travel to Tajikistan is available for nationals of over 60 countries. Depending on your country of origin, you may enjoy unlimited stay in the country or a single visit for up to 90 days. For your travel, it is only essential to have a valid passport and a national ID card.

The Tajikistan eVisa is an online visa that may be obtained electronically. Available since 2016, it has been facilitating travel for nationals of over 120 countries. It allows for visits related to tourism and business lasting up to 60 days. The visa remains valid for 90 days.

The visa on arrival to Tajikistan is available for citizens of 22 selected countries. It may be issued while entering Tajikistan through the Dushanbe International Airport. Once your identity is verified by the immigration officers, they will grant you a visa for up to 45 days.

An Embassy Visa is issued at the nearest Tajikistan Embassy. Schedule an appointment at the office and submit your application. Once your visa is approved, enjoy long-term travel to Tajikistan. The granted validity periods may vary.

Regardless of the reason for travel, citizens of Abkhazia, Artsakh, Donetsk People’s Republic, Kosovo, Luhansk People’s Republic, Northern Cyprus, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Somaliland, South Ossetia, and Transnistria are forbidden from entering Tajikistan.

Moreover, a special permit (GBAO permit) is required while visiting the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region area of Tajikistan. Paying an additional fee, the document may be easily obtained online. This travel advice applies to all foreign visitors.

Who can enter Tajikistan?

Methods of getting a visa to Tajikistan

Electronic visa (eVisa)

The Tajikistan eVisa is an electronic visa allowing eligible travelers for visiting Tajikistan for purposes of tourism, business, and transit. Complete the online application form and pay the processing fee. You will be notified when your visa is approved. It must be collected in person at the Embassy or the Dushanbe International Airport.

A Tajikistan eVisa is valid for 90 days, allowing for a 60-day-long stay.

Visa on arrival (VOA)

A Tajikistan visa on arrival may be easily obtained while entering the country through the Dushanbe International Airport. Once you have landed in Tajikistan, visit the immigration office and request a visa. Make sure you have all the necessary documentation on hand.

The visa remains valid for 45 days, allowing you to enjoy tourism and business in Tajikistan.

Regular visa

A regular Tajik visa can be issued at the nearest Tajikistan Embassy. The application must be conducted in person – fill in the registration form and participate in a consular interview. When it’s approved, collect your visa from the office. Apart from a Tourist Visa, you can also request a Work Visa or a Study Visa.

Entry requirements for children

All foreign travelers planning to visit Tajikistan must apply for a suitable visa before the travel (unless eligible for visa-free entry). This rule applies to both adults and children. A visa application form for minors should be completed by their parents or guardians.

Transit information

If you plan on passing through Tajikistan while traveling to another destination, it is not essential to apply for a visa. If you do not leave the airport’s transit zone, you can travel visa-free. Otherwise, obtain a Transit Visa. Once approved, it will remain valid for 3 days.
