New Zealand eTA (NZeTA) – Basic information

New Zealand eTA is an Electronic Travel Authority introduced in 2019 to facilitate the process of obtaining short-term travel authorization for travelers from certain countries.

The NZeTA is issued as a multiple-entry visa and enables traveling to New Zealand for tourism, business, and transit-related purposes. Every single stay in the country can be as long as 3 months, while the validity of the document is 2 years.

Nationals of eligible countries can complete a 3-step intuitive application process within minutes. The process consists of filling out an online form, covering the processing fee, and receiving the approved NZeTA via email. The processing time shouldn’t take more than 3 business days.

An applicant simply needs to have a passport with at least 3-month validity starting from the intended exit date from New Zealand. It will also be necessary to have access to any Internet-connected electronic device, valid means of online payment, and an active email address.

It’s essential to submit the NZeTA online application at least 72 business hours prior to the planned journey to receive the visa approved on time.

Who needs a New Zealand eTA

Citizens of around 60 different countries and territories worldwide must obtain an NZeTA to enter New Zealand. Go to the ‘List of eligible countries’ and check whether you can apply for NZeTA.

Please note that the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority is mandatory for persons arriving in New Zealand by sea or air. It also applies to transit passengers unless they are visa-exempt.

Important: Should your nationality is not included on the above list, it means you are not eligible for the NZeTA. You will need to contact the nearest New Zealand embassy and apply for a relevant visa in a traditional way.

New Zealand e-Visa types

The New Zealand government introduced only one type of eTA, which is issued as:

• a multiple-entry permit: its holder is allowed to enter New Zealand numerous times and stay there for up to 3 months (90 days) each time.

Important! All citizens of the UK may stay in New Zealand for up to 6 months every time.

New Zealand eTA application form

Prepare your passport and working electronic device, check the Internet connection and sit back in your chair. You’re only three steps away from getting your New Zealand eTA. These steps go as follows:

1. Fill out the online form: provide all the required details, i.e., name, surname, date of birth, email address, nationality, passport details, etc.
2. Cover the processing fee: use your credit card/debit card or any other preferred method of online payment and pay the 69 Ero eTA fee.
3. Receive your eTA: refresh your email inbox and download the approved eTA.

Please remember that the standard processing time may take up to 3 business days. However, the average time is only 23 hours. Make sure to refresh your email inbox!

APPLY FOR EVISA NEW ZEALAND

NZeTA required documents

You will need to meet basic requirements, i.e., having a valid passport. What’s important, the passport cannot expire for at least 3 months from the intended date of leaving New Zealand.

Tip: You should renew it if its validity is shorter and only then start your NZeTA application.

One more requirement that must be met to apply for the New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority is uploading the applicant’s digital face photo. You don’t need to worry about the size of your pictures.

New Zealand eTA validity

The New Zealand eTA remains valid for 2 years from the date of issue. Functioning as a multiple-entry visa, it can be used for numerous entries to the country. Every single stay cannot exceed 3 months.

Moreover, cruise or airline crew members are granted NZeTA, which stays effective for 5 years from the issuance date.

Transit information

Passengers planning transit through New Zealand must also hold a New Zealand visa. Check your eligibility and obtain the NZeTA to stay in New Zealand before reaching your final destination.

Please note that you can only transit through Auckland International Airport and stay in the airport transit area.
