Myanmar eVisa – basic information

The eVisa for Myanmar allows travelers to come to Myanmar for business and tourism purposes. The Myanmar electronic visa system was implemented on 1 September 2014 by the Myanmar government to make the application process easier and less time-consuming.

You can apply for a Myanmar tourist visa online to stay in the country for 28 days, or get a business visa that permits participating in business-related activities for up to 70 days.

Who needs an eVisa to Myanmar

Citizens of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Russia, Vietnam, and Thailand don’t need a visa for Myanmar for a certain period of time. The Myanmar visa-on-arrival scheme has been suspended.

Myanmar eVisa types

Depending on why you want to travel to Myanmar, you can choose between two types of Myanmar visa:

• a tourist eVisa for Myanmar can be used for various tourist purposes: sightseeing, recreation, vacationing, and meeting friends and relatives; it is a single-entry and allows a 28-day stay;
• a business eVisa for Myanmar is for you if you need to visit Myanmar to participate in business meetings, training, conferences, and congresses, discuss future business cooperations, act as an expert in an ongoing project, etc. You can stay in the country for up to 70 days.

eVisa Myanmar validity

Both types of visas to Myanmar stay valid for 90 days (3 months) from the issuance date. Still, the allowed period of stay differs: a tourist eVisa to Myanmar enables its holders to stay for 28 days, while a business stays effective for up to 70 days.

The validity period is the time when you can cross the borders of Myanmar. This is how it works: you must enter the country within 90 days of visa approval. When you arrive, you can stay either for 28 days (if you have a tourist visa for Myanmar) or 70 days (if you have a business visa) from the arrival date.

Note that both visa types allow only one entry.

Myanmar eVisa requirements

To complete a Myanmar eVisa application, you need to have such documents:

• a photo of your passport valid for a minimum of 6 months from your planned date of arrival in Myanmar;
• your recent face photo – it must have a plain off-white background and show your facial features clearly; keep in mind that this is still a photo for an official document, so it must be neutral.

Transit information

You cannot enter Myanmar without a visa, even if you only need to stop in Myanmar without any specific purpose other than being en route to another destination.

You need a regular visa to enter Myanmar through another entry point. In order to obtain it, attend the nearest Myanmar embassy.
