ETIAS General Information

ETIAS is a multiple-entry travel authorization planned to be operational by November 2023. This electronic permit is to allow its holders to enter any of the Schengen Area member countries.

The European Travel Information and Authorization System is a mandatory document to be obtained by all travelers from outside the EU (nationals of 60 different countries) planning to enter the EU countries.

The approved ETIAS will remain valid for 3 years and enable visiting the Schengen Area countries multiple times within its validity period. Every single stay with ETIAS can last up to three months and must be related to such travel purposes as leisure, transit, business, and medical treatment.

ETIAS application can be completed online by simply following a few intuitive steps involving filling out an online application form and making the payment of the service fee, to finally receive the approved document via email.

Who needs ETIAS

All travelers from non-EU countries need to apply for ETIAS travel authorization to enter any country being part of the Schengen Area. Therefore, do remember to complete the ETIAS application if you are a national of a country outside the European Union.

Should your country is not eligible for ETIAS, you will need to obtain a relevant visa or another permit covering all your particular traveling needs.

Types of ETIAS visa waiver

There is only one type of ETIAS visa waiver that covers various purposes, including:

• leisure: visiting friends or family members in Europe, spending vacation, exploring tourist attractions, traveling around Europe;
• business: handling various business affairs, participating in a business conferences, negotiating business contracts, looking for potential business partners;
• transit: making a stop before going to another travel destination in the Schengen Area;
• medical treatment: to undergo medical treatment in one of the European countries.

Important: Please do note that although ETIAS serves business-related purposes, it does not function as a work permit.

ETIAS application

The online ETIAS application was designed to be as effortless as possible. Applying for ETIAS shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes, and most applications should be approved immediately upon submission.

Applicants will need to grab a valid passport and follow these simple steps:

1. Fill out an online form: enter the standard personal data, passport information, and contact details; make sure that all the information is error-free and move on to the second step.
2. Cover the service fee: choose one of the preferred methods of online payment and cover the processing fee.
3. Refresh your email address: after a maximum of 4 business days from the date you submitted your ETIAS application, you will receive its approval in a PDF file via email.

Please note that the processing time may differ depending on various factors, such as the correctness of the submitted application form. Remember to submit only true and up-to-date information to ensure immediate approval of your ETIAS.

ETIAS validity period

The ETIAS travel authorization stays effective for 3 years from the date of issue or until the individual’s travel document expires (whichever comes first).

Please do note that since ETIAS and passport are digitally matched, the passport cannot expire during your entire duration of planned stay in one of the EU member countries.

Transit information

Nationals of every country that can enjoy visa-free entry to the European Union need to apply for an ETIAS visa waiver, even if they only wish to transit through a given country.

Do remember to obtain ETIAS before entering any of the EU countries and reaching your final destination.

Requirements for ETIAS

All applicants for ETIAS need to provide the following documents:

• a passport that will remain valid for the entire duration of the planned trip;
• a digital face photo (phone or PC camera photos are acceptable).
