East Africa visa – basic information

The East Africa Tourist visa is a joint electronic visa to three countries – Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. Citizens of all countries can apply for a visa to East Africa, except for those travelers who already own a valid visa to any of these countries.

This online visa allows free movement between Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda during a 3-month validity period.

To apply for a visa to East Africa, one needs to complete an electronic form, attach documents, and cover the fee. Within a short period of time, the East Africa tourist visa will be approved, and you can start your trip!

Note that you can enter East Africa for the first time only through the country that approved your online visa.

Who needs an East Africa visa

Every traveler who wants to move freely between Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda and doesn’t hold a passport of these countries must get an East African tourist visa. It is available to citizens of all countries in the world.

You’ll need to present a hard copy of the East African eVisa to an immigration officer at the point of entry. The East Africa Visa Sticker will be issued at the point of entry of the first country.

List of eligible countries

Most countries offer electronic visas only to some nations, so it’s important to check if you are an eligible traveler. However, this is not the case for an East Africa visa, as it can be obtained by citizens of all countries.

East Africa visa types

The East Africa visa is available in one type – a multiple-entry visa allowing visiting three countries – Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya.

In Rwanda and Kenya, a visa for East Africa can be used only for tourism and family visits, while in Uganda, it is also good for both tourism and business matters.

East Africa visa application form

The East Africa tourist visa can be applied for via an intuitive online process. Our website is user-friendly, so all you need to do is to follow several steps:

• Complete the East Africa visa application form. You need to provide your personal and travel details.
• Upload the required documents. You should attach the following documents: a bio-data page of a valid passport and a digital face photo. If you want to enter East Africa through Uganda, you also need proof of a vaccination certificate against yellow fever, a travel itinerary, and a copy of your return ticket.
• Pay the 149 Euro visa fees. There are several online payment methods on our website. For example, you may use your credit or debit card.
• Check your inbox. Once the East African eVisa is processed and approved, it will be sent to the email address you stated in the application form.

The East Africa tourist visa arrives as a PDF document. You should make a paper copy.

East Africa visa validity

The East Africa visa is valid for 90 days (3 months). Its validity period starts on the planned date of entry – the date stated in your application form – and not the issuance date itself.

During this time, you can enter and reenter Uganda, Rwanda, & Kenya unlimited times and stay for up to 3 months.

Note that the East African eVisa is electronically linked to the applicant’s passport. Therefore, if the passport expires or any data on it changes, the electronic visa becomes invalid. If that’s happened, you need to apply for a new East Africa tourist visa.

Transit information

When wishing to travel through Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya but not stay there, you don’t need to obtain an East Africa visa unless you plan to leave the airport transit zone.

If you do need to go out of this zone, you must obtain a transit visa to East Africa. You cannot apply for it online. Instead, you should get it at the airport.
