eTA Canada – Basic information

The Canadian eTA is an Electronic Travel Authorization that the government of Canada introduced in 2016 to let foreign nationals enter the country for tourism, transit, or business.

The process of obtaining a Canada Electronic Travel Authorization eTA is conducted entirely online. The form includes questions concerning your personal data, essential travel information, and contact details. A picture of a valid passport must also be submitted to the application. When the online visa is approved, it will be sent to your e-mail.

Canadian eTA is a multiple-entry visa allowing you to stay in Canada for 6 months. It is electronically linked to the passport, which makes the traveler verification easier. The document remains valid for 5 years from the issuing date.

Who Needs the Canada eTA?

The eTA can be used while traveling to Canada for purposes including tourism, business, and transit. Once you obtain the visa, you are allowed to meet with your friends and family, enjoy holidays, attend business conferences, or participate in negotiations.

Permanent residents of Canada and US citizens are visa-exempt foreign nationals, so they do not need to apply for an eTA permit while traveling to Canada.

Brazilian nationals must fulfill the following entry requirements to apply for an online visa to Canada:

• being US Permanent Resident (Green Card holder)
• having a Canadian visa within the 10 years preceding their current visit to Canada
• possessing a US non-immigrant visa

Citizens of the following countries do not need a visa to enter Canada:

• US citizens
• Canadian nationals or dual Canadian citizens
• permanent residents of Canada

Types of Canadian Electronic Visas

The government of Canada offers visitors one type of Electronic Travel Authorization. The visa is intended for tourism or business travel.

With a Canadian multiple-entry visa online, you can cross the border many times within its 5 years of validity. The maximum duration of a single visit is 6 months.

Please remember you are not allowed to work with Electronic Travel Authorization eTA. To get a Work Visa, you must visit the Canadian Embassy.

Canadian eTA Application Instruction

If you are ready to apply for an eTA to Canada, prepare your passport and turn on a device connected to the Internet. Next, follow the short application guide below.

• Fill in the registration form. There are a few questions regarding your personal information and travel details. Make sure provided data is correct.
• Pay the visa fee of 49 EUR. Choose one of the available online payment methods. The payment confirmation will be delivered to your e-mail.
• Wait for the approved Electronic Travel Authorization eTA to be delivered via e-mail. You may print it for the travel.

You can enter Canada without printing out the approved visa. An authorized eTA will be electronically linked to your passport. The crucial part is to provide the correct information in the form, as you won’t be asked to submit a copy of your passport.

Please note the government of Canada makes the final approval of Canadian online visas, so any delay in processing results from the need for additional verification.

Requirements for Canadian eTA

To apply for an eTA to Canada, you only need one document – a passport. It must stay valid for at least 6 months from the planned date of travel. It is also the only document you need to keep when crossing the border. Your Canadian eTA will be electronically assigned to your passport.

With the Canadian eTA and a valid passport, you can travel to Canada by air.

Please note it is crucial to provide the correct information in the registration form. It will help to avoid delays in the visa approval process. Also, remember to submit your application early enough before traveling to Canada.

eTA Canada Validity Period

The eTA to Canada remains effective for 5 years from the issuing date. During its validity period, you are allowed to enter Canada multiple times. However, each visit cannot last longer than 6 months.

While traveling to Canada with the Travel Authorization, your passport should stay valid throughout the entire journey. If the passport expires, your Canadian eTA will also be considered invalid. In this case, it will be necessary to submit a new application.

Transit Information

You are required to obtain a relevant visa if you are going to transit through Canada. If you are eligible to apply for the Canadian eTA, you can proceed with the online registration. Otherwise, you must schedule a visit at the nearest Embassy and request a regular visa to Canada.
