Who can enter Papua New Guinea?

Papua New Guinea can be visited by a person from any country, provided the PNG visa policy rules and entry requirements are satisfied.

People willing to enter Papua New Guinea must have a passport valid for 6 months, a PNG visa, and certain other documents.

If a traveler to PNG has a criminal conviction or is subject to criminal prosecution, that information must be disclosed.

Entry requirements for Papua New Guinea

All visitors to Papua New Guinea must have a passport with one blank page that remains valid for a minimum period of 6 months from the date of entry into PNG.

On 6 October 2022, all COVID-19 restrictions for international travel into PNG were lifted. Currently, no vaccinations are required.

Upon arrival in Papua New Guinea, travelers must have a return or onward ticket to their next destination and proof of sufficient funds (for example, bank statements).

It is forbidden to bring drugs, firearms, weapons, censored films, obscene literature, and prescription medicines into Papua New Guinea.

Entry requirements for children

Underage travelers must abide by the same rules as adults: a valid passport with one blank page, a PNG visa, a return/onward ticket, and proof of sufficient funds are necessary upon arrival.

Every child must have a separate PNG visa, and the application may be completed by their parent or legal guardian.

If a minor is traveling without one or both parents, an immigration officer may also request a letter from (another) parent.

Transit information

Transit travelers do not need a PNG visa if they satisfy certain conditions:

• they remain within the transit area
• they have all the necessary documentation for their onward destination
• the period of stay in Papua New Guinea is up to 8 hours

In all other cases, a PNG visa is required. A traveler should check their eligibility and apply for a visa to Papua New Guinea either online or at the embassy.
